Post secondary Education
The Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad offers postsecondary educational opportunities for those who seek to be a student of the fire and rescue services. In comparison we offer more than most trade schools, preparing individuals for a career field that has better than average pay and benefits. We understand that most individuals will not attend college. Some do not yet have a high enough grade point average to be accepted to college. Our process links students with college credit opportunities with the University of Maryland, University College.
Our program allows students to gain technical experience through a rigorous skill-building program. Today’s fire service organizations seek potential candidates with certifications in emergency medical (EMT) and firefighting. We facilitate our members getting training from the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI) which is a part of the Maryland University System. Once trained in order to operate as an emergency medical technician we help our members receive certification through the Maryland Institute Of Emergency Medical Services Systems.
