
Passing of Chief Eugene Jones
The Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department are mourning the loss of our Asst. Fire Chief Eugene A. Jones.
Chief Jones passed away unexpectedly at the age of 60 on the afternoon of Friday of March 12, 2021, of apparent natural causes. The final determination as to cause of death is pending.
Jones served as the eleventh Fire Chief of Prince George’s County Fire/EMS from his appointment in July, 2009 until his retirement as Fire Chief in December, 2010. Prior to his appointment, he had served the Department for twenty-four years retiring at the rank of Major in 2007.
Jones joined the Morningside Volunteer Fire Department in 2015 and then transferred to the Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department in 2019. At the time of his death, he was the Assistant Chief at Silver Hill VFD. He was also serving as the 2nd Vice President of the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association.
Jones was a former Fire Chief for the District of Columbia Fire and EMS Department serving from 2014 to 2015. Prior to that appointment, he was the Assistant Fire Chief for Operations at DC Fire and EMS from 2013 to 2014.
Chief Jones is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters and many other beloved relatives and family. The men and women of Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department wrap our arms around them and share in their grief. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all.
