Moving an Organization Forward Through Headwinds of Change
We at the Silver Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad are undertaking various initiatives to help the organization operate in the environment for the next 50 years. At 71 years and counting this organization has seen much change. The political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental factors have all changed continuously and that shows the resilience of our organization and the talent of our members. Life members should be proud of their achievements as they reflect on the past and in light of the current situation. They left a stable and profitable organization for the next generation of fire and emergency medical services personnel.
Our People
The volunteers are a mix of young and old, experienced and inexperienced and we are a diverse group in every sense of the word. Each member plays their role with one prevailing attitude, we are here to serve others. When we put aside our differences and we focus on our universal need to serve others we thrive. We are proud to be associated with each other and we appreciate what each of us brings to the table. Recently we have had several members pass their EMT and National Registry. This will continue the cycle of service as they move from trainee to service provider.
Our Building
We have upgraded many parts of the facility to make the environment more enjoyable. We are considerate of our member’s physical needs as well as their health and safety. Sometimes it looks like a work zone when we replace the carpet, paint, receive new furniture, computers and associated work stations and more. We are even meeting with contractors to see the feasibility of extending the second floor to create a new bunkroom, offices and workout facility.
Our Apparatus
We have a robust apparatus replacement program so that we can employ the best technologies to operate in the hostile environments we respond to. We have also put new personnel in place to help us manage our apparatus maintenance program.
Our Time
We respect the time commitments of our members and provide the best training, educational opportunities, and benefits to ensure they feel respected for their service. We know our members could be doing many other things and we want them to have a healthy balance in their activities. Because we are the busiest company in the County we also know our members will have the experiences to provide services to those in need as often as they would want to participate.
We are here to meet the needs of all those who want to have a rewarding career in the fire and rescue services. We are located at 3900 Old Silver Hill Road in Suitland, Maryland. We have Drill Night on Mondays beginning at 7 pm. Come Join Us!!
